Fashion Designer

Coco Chanel
Coco's vision was for women to dress in comfort, and to say bye to corsets. Her inspiration were man's clothing, she borrowed pieces from man's clothing to make woman's clothing more comfortable. Which she made the Chanel suit with collarless jacket and well-fitted skirt. Then she paired her pieces with jewelry,  she kinda made it ok for women to wear fake jewelry. Coco's also made the color black cool and chic. Another popular item Chanel gave us was the little black dress. For fabrics she brought jersey in dresses and tweed in her suits. In the 1950's Chanel designed for wealthy women and celebrities, The Chanel suit became a status symbol for a new generation,
Her items were sold in her store, Chanel.

Christian Dior

Christian Dior's inspiration was woman's body. He loved the way they were formed, and used his clothing to enhance it. The New Look was boned, bustier-style bodices, hip padding, wasp-waisted corsets and petticoats that made his dresses flare out from the waist, giving woman that hour glass figure. For fabrics he used percale which was a closely woven plain wave fabric. Stiff material and gathered tightly, they were often made of several layers and were worn all around the waist-not just at the back. The garments were frequently sewn to a fabric belt and buttoned at the waist. The Dresses were sold to upper class women and actresses. He's stuff was sold at a private house.

Nystrom's List

Dominating Events

Significant Occurrences:
 Hippies
The Hippie movement began in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  This movement started because of war, the Vietnam war. The Hippies were against the war and wanted peace. These anti-war teens and young adults were laid back and all about peace and love, which revolved into a style. They dressed in a way to express their rebellion. It was  "an age when people felt that drug addiction  was alright to experiment with". They wore  bell-bottom jeans, ankle fringes, flower patches and peasant blouses. Accessories were long earrings, bandanas and other head gear, scarves and bracelets and rings that had peace symbol on them.

Art Vogues:

Observing

Stonewood Mall

The mall I observed was the Stonewood mall, which is right down the street from my house. I sat in front of a Wet Seal and Jc Pennys. When observing outside both stores, I noticed at  Wet Seal, there were  ages 14 to 21 year old shopping there.  The consumers entered the store with friends, and a lot were boyfriend and girlfriend couples, a few came with parents.  When I went inside the store there was a lot of people in that crowded Wet Seal Store. The girls would spend a lot of time looking around at everything. Most of the girls bought accessories, underwear, and shirts. At Jc Pennys there were a lot of families and older women walking into this store.  Most of the women knew what they wanted and got in, and got out. Other women and the people that came in with families walked around and browsed around. Jc Penny's was not as packed as Wet Seal.

Style Tribes

Some of the style tribes that I noticed here at A.I. are 3, interior design students, design students, and video gamers. The interior design students dress real professional but have style to them, they might be my fav. in dressing. I've never seen an interior design student from here that i didn't like what they were wearing. They are very well put together in dressing. The design students all have their own style that's very original, and each one is different and unique. Which I am real interested, when observing them. The video gamers are mostly in hooded sweaters, pants, and sneakers. They look real relaxed and laid back. Looks like style and clothing are not important to them.
